We've had Macmillan cake, and eaten it too!

Ooh – perhaps there is such a thing as too much cake after all!  I have never been at all disciplined in refusing cake – and blame my sweet tooth for this lack of self-control, so I therefore found our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday a bit of a trial.

However, the team certainly came up trumps: I don’t think I’ve ever been in the same room as so many different – and drool-inducing – type of cake. They really pushed the boat out – and went to so much trouble. You can tell we meant business with the rather large urn and industrial kettle that suddenly appeared in the Board room.  And thanks to all our colleagues in the building – including Lloyds Bank and the Stevenage Comet – we had a lot of visitors to tea.  I don’t think quite everyone in the building found a reason to journey via our cake mine today – but an awful lot of them did – so a big thank you to everyone who made today so enjoyable and such a success.

We’re obviously in good company, because everywhere we’ve been recently we’ve seen the Macmillan coffee morning logo: local hotels, Marks and Spencer, Tesco ……..  The money everyone has given so generously throughout the country will hopefully beat all previous records and we’re really proud to have played a part in what is rapidly becoming a British institution.

We don’t know yet exactly how much we’ve raised but we are all waiting for bated breath to find out who won the Guess the Spots on the Cake competition.  Unfortunately, the scratch off to reveal the answer panel didn’t work so we’re going to be in touch with Macmillan on Monday, to find out the answer.

I’m sure it must have been me; I used a very scientific method of calculating exactly how many spots there were.  But if I don’t win, it’ll be because I ate far too much cake!
