Macmillan Coffee Morning

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. They ask people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone they raised £25 million and this year they are aiming to raise even more.

The very first Coffee Morning took place in 1990 and it was fairly small with simple ideas. Guests would chat over coffee and donate the mcmillan coffee morningcost of their cuppa and cake to Macmillan. It was extremely effective and it happened again the following year – this time however, it went national! Since then, every year the Coffee Morning has got bigger and so far they have raised £138 million for Macmillan Nurses.

It is not difficult to get involved with Macmillan Coffee Morning, click on link below to go to their website and select you want to host. You will then be taken through the process and will receive an incredible Coffee Morning pack.

There are currently 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer. By 2030, it is estimated that the figure will have increased to 4 million and Macmillan have to be there to support them all.

One in three of us will suffer cancer and it will be one of the toughest things we will ever have to face. Macmillan’s goal is to make sure no one faces cancer alone. They provide medical, emotional, practical and financial support, as well as campaigning for better cancer care. As cancer affects not only those facing it, but also their family and friends and Macmillan are there to support them also.

A cancer diagnosis affects everyone differently. Most people just want to go home and digest the information they have been given and this regularly leads to a flood of emotions that can be very hard to manage. This reaction is quite normal and it will take some time for them to fully understand and start to come to terms with the diagnosis.

It is common to experience a multitude of emotions, including:

  • Sadness
  • Feeling Overwhelmed
  • Afraid
  • Anger
  • Guilt
  • Denial
  • Stress
  • Anxious
  • Depression

When given a diagnosis of cancer, they are also given the options regarding their treatment. If they are finding it too difficult to understand or to make a decision, there is a support network they can use, to help them deal with the situation, i.e. Macmillan Nurses.

Most cancer sufferers find that having a network of family, friends, professionals, i.e., Macmillan nurses, are a great support and will help them get through this very difficult time.
